Middlebury, Vt. - After falling to Williams Friday night, the Colby College Women's Basketball team looked to bounce back Saturday against Middlebury to improve on their 1-1 NESCAC record. Unfortunately the Mules could not come out with the win falling to the Panthers 50-40 placing their overall record at 9-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. Middlebury improves to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in the NESCAC.
Throughout the game both teams played well defensively in the low scoring matchup containing a total of 22 steals. The Panthers were able to go into the halftime break with a 28-20 lead leaving plenty of time for Colby to make a comeback. However, this small lead was enough to separate the two teams as they matched in scoring in the third quarter 12-12 and only a two point difference in the fourth leading to the Middlebury win.
Kate Olenik and
Chelsea Ibenegbu both played well offensively and defensively as Olenik netted 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals while Ibenegbu tallied seven points and five steals.
Amelia Hanscom led the Mules in scoring totaling 13 points to go along with eight rebounds as
Lydia Mordarski added on eight points and five rebounds.
Colby will stay on the road to face Husson Wednesday January 17th for their last non-conference game of the season.
