Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Women's Soccer team is set to kick off the 2023 season Wednesday evening against the Eagles of Husson University in Bangor. Colby has won their last 11 matchups with Husson, including a 5-0 win last season in Waterville to open the 2022 campaign.
Heading into the year, second-year head coach
Tracey Leone has a lot to look forward to. "We are very excited about how preseason is going," said Leone. "The players worked extremely hard over the summer, and that is showing. Our team is much improved and very driven to do everything possible to succeed this season. We have very good depth, excellent chemistry, and great promise. We can't wait for the season to begin!"
Looking to build off a 5-9-1 2022 season that saw the Mules go 5-0 in non-conference games, ten seniors return to lead Colby on the pitch, including captains
Maddie Fisher,
Jackie Portogallo, and
Charlotte Johnson. Colby returns three of its top point scorers from a season ago in
Sophie DiGrande '26 (five goals, one assist),
Kaleigh Quinn '25 (four goals, two assists), and
Jadyn Liebman '26 (three goals, two assists).
Emily McMaster '25 and
MK Marshall '26 saw the majority of the time in net for the Mules last year, combining for 68 saves between them.
"Overall, our team has been working really hard during preseason and has maintained a driven, positive mentality to make an impact in the NESCAC," reflected senior
Mia Cromwell. "I think we have a lot of young talent from our first-years, which is super exciting. Everyone is really looking forward to competing and performing this season!"
Kickoff on Wednesday is slated for 6:00pm on Husson's Boucher Field. Check the
