Waterville, Maine - The Colby Baseball team erased a six-run deficit late in game one to take the opener 7-6 in walk-off fashion. With four runs in the third and six runs in the fourth, the Mules took game two 12-8 to complete the sweep of Hamilton and advance to the NESCAC Championship Tournament next weekend.
GAME ONE:
- With three runs in the first inning, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth, Hamilton built up a 6-0 lead.
- Genki LeClair hit a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Mules within three runs.
- Aided by two baserunners reaching dur to error in the bottom of the ninth, Caleb Jung connected on his first homerun of the season, a three-run shot, to tie the game with one out in the ninth.
- Following the Jung homerun, Clint Flippo walked and Ryan Grace was hit by a pitch, forcing the winning run into scoring position. Cole Palmeri laced a single to left for his 28th RBI of the season, sending Flippo around to touch the dish for the game-winner.
- Julian Erro pitched 3.2 innings in relief, earning the win without allowing a run and striking out five.
GAME TWO:
- Colby collected 14 hits in the nightcap, led by LeClair who went 3-3 with four runs scored.
- Grace his a three-run homerun in the fourth inning, followed by a Marcus Forrester two-run homerun in the same inning, guiding the Mules to a 11-4 lead after four frames.
- Despite plating three runs in the top of the ninth, the Mules secured the final out to advance to the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the second consecutive year.
The Continentals were NESCAC runners up a season ago, and finish their season with an 18-15 record. Colby improves to 24-10 and is set to host the remaining games of NESCAC play May 12-14.
