Colby Off to NCAA Round Three Post Dominant Win Over Babson

Waterville, Maine - In a NCAA DIII round two women's lacrosse matchup the Colby College Mules took on the Babson College Beavers leading to a 20-8 victory for the Mules. Colby improves to 13-5 overall on the season as the Beavers season comes to an end with a 13-8 overall record.
 
The Mules opened the game scoring the first three goals, including two from Cami McDonald. Babson answered quickly, knotting two goals of their own from Claudia Dodge marking the score 3-2. To wrap up the first, the Mules went on a four to one goal run to give them a 7-3 edge. To open the second quarter, Colby grabbed a goal from Ainsley Dion as the Beavers responded with a goal by Jessica Evans at the 10-minute mark. The Mules found the back of the net three more times in the half as Babson's Kathryn Blake added a goal keeping Colby's led to six going into halftime with an 11-5 score.
 
The Mules kept up the pressure in the third knotting five more goals including back to backs from McDonald. The Beavers were able to add a sixth and seventh goal in the middle of the third and an eighth with a minute to go to keep their deficit at eight heading into the final frame. Strong play continued for the Mules starting with a free position goal from Tori Congdon and a goal from Ainsley Dion to open the fourth quarter and increase their lead to double digits 18-8. With two late goals from Colby to make it 20-8, Babson was kept at bay and unable to respond as the game came to an end.
 
Gianna Bruno had a stellar performance totaling nine points with eight of those being assists. Both McDonald and Elizabeth Hennessey finished with six points apiece as Sarah Hearns totaled 10 saves. 
 
With the win, the Mules advanced to round three of the DIII NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament facing off against The College of New Jersey with more information to come.
