WATERVILLE, Maine - In a tightly contested NESCAC matchup, the Colby Women's Lacrosse Team secured a narrow 12-11 victory over the Trinity College Bantams at home on Bill Alfond field. Despite a late surge from Trinity, the Mules held on to their lead to improve their overall record to 10-4 and their league record to 6-3, while Trinity dropped to 10-4 overall and 5-4 in NESCAC, with their final regular-season game coming up on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Concluding the match, Colby recognized it's five seniors in Kailey O'Neill, Gianna Bruno, Annie Eddy, Elizabeth Hennessey, and Jillian Mazzocca.
Lily Ives scored the opening goal for the Bantams, but the Mules responded scoring three goals to take a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Colby scored twice in the final two minutes and prevented Trinity's early momentum in the quarter with three goals, ending the first half with a 5-4 lead. In the third quarter, Colby initially took the lead before Trinity tied the game at six-all with two quick goals. The Bantams then took a 7-6 lead, but Colby tallied with three goals to lead 10-7 going into the final quarter. Despite Trinitys efforts to close the score deficit in the final quarter, the Mules' goalkeeper Sarah Hearns made a crucial save in the final seconds to secure the victory.
Bruno had an outstanding performance, contributing seven points on three goals and four assists for Colby, while goalkeeper Hearns made six crucial saves. Paige Saudek also scored three goals, and Ally Franz added two points. The Mules outshot Trinity 31-24 and forced a total of 36 groundballs.
Colby is set to face Bates College in their final game of the season on Mayflower Hill, hopeful to finish on another win.
