Box Score Amherst, Mass.- Colby College Women's Ice Hockey traveled to Amherst College to compete in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA DIII Women's Ice Hockey Championships. After an initially close matchup, the Mules fell 4-0 to the Amherst College Mammoths to end an outstanding 50th anniversary season.
Colby entered as the underdog in a well-matched competition between NESCAC rivals, battling the 3rd seed as the 10th seed. The first period proved to be a tough one offensively for Colby, however, the Mules ensured impact on the other end with fifteen saves by goalkeeper
Paige Bolyard in the first period alone. In the second period, the momentum shifted, with the Mules getting early control of the offense and attempting to get past the 0-0 stalemate. In the final minutes of the period, both teams showed increased urgency and scrambled to try to get the puck in the net before the third period, but efforts from both sides proved unsuccessful. In the third period, the Mammoths overtook the match scoring four unanswered goals to close out the match.
Although the 2022-2023 season has come to an end, Colby College Women's Ice Hockey season consisted of a record-breaking eighteen wins, two players on all-NESCAC teams, and the first-ever game win in the NCAA tournaments. With eighteen freshmen and sophomores, the Mules will continue to improve in the following seasons.
