Box Score Amherst, Massachusetts- Today's matchup between the Colby College Mules and Amherst College Mammoths was the second of the season, where the Mammoths took game one with a 3-0 win over the Mules earlier this season.
Â
The two teams battled through the first twenty minutes, with Amherst taking the slight advantage in shots over Colby. In the second period, the Mules only registered six shots, with one crossing the goal line courtesy of
Jack Sullivan from
Carter Breitenfeldt and
Alex Bourhas just over three minutes into the second. Colby was able to hold off Amherst until the final minute, where they would tie the game heading into the final twenty minutes of regulation. Amherst significantly outshot the Mules in the third period, but goaltender
Andy Beran kept the Mules in the game. Both teams were unable to score a go-ahead goal in the third period, leaving overtime to decide the game. In overtime, Colby controlled the play, but the Mammoths would only need one shot on goal to seal the 2-1 overtime win against the Mules. Beran made 41 saves tonight, the most he has made all season.
Â
Colby will take on the first team in the NESCAC next Friday, February 10, against Trinity College at the Jack Kelley Rink on the campus of Colby College. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM.
