Waterville, Maine- Colby College Women's Ice Hockey competed against the Amherst College Mammoths in a NESCAC matchup, falling 3-2 in overtime. The Mules are now 11-6-0 overall and 5-6-0 in NESCAC conference competition.
In the first period, the Mules and Mammoths were in an even matchup with nineteen shots by Colby and sixteen shots by Amherst. However, Amherst was able to pull ahead with a goal in the eighth minute. Throughout a scoreless second period, Colby was able to improve its offense keeping the puck in their offensive zone. In the 7th minute of the third period, Amherst pulled ahead on another goal to put Colby down two. With less than three minutes left, captain
Meg Rittenhouse was set up with the pass by
Bri Michaud-Nolan and
Georgia Pettygrove in the neutral zone, and put the puck up high to achieve the power play goal. In the final minute of the match, Colby looked for a final goal to tie the game. The Mules utilized an empty net for an offensive boost, which paid off with a goal by
Courtney Schumacher with only thirty-seven seconds left to send Colby into overtime. One minute into overtime, a goal by Amherst ended a rigorous comeback effort by the Mules.
Tomorrow Colby College Women's Ice Hockey will rematch the Amherst College Mammoths at home at 3:00 pm.
