Williamstown, Mass. - The Colby Men's Basketball team returned to the court this afternoon to continue their push for a NESCAC title. They faced off against Williams in a familiar setting where they had dropped a close battle to the Ephs a month and a half ago. The Mules dominated from start to finish as they took the victory 66-51, improving their overall record to 20-6. Williams finishes their season 23-4 and awaits a potential at-large bit for the NCAA Tournament.
The first half saw the Mules put up their strongest defensive performance of the season as they held Williams to 18 points. They converted six Williams turnovers into 11 points and held the Ephs to 25 percent shooting from the field. Offensively, the Mules dominated inside, as they had 16 points in the paint and were over 50 percent shooting from the field.
Will King led the scoring for Colby with 10 points.
Max Poulton followed up with nine, and
Jack Lawson had six.
The second half saw the Ephs fight back as they outscored the Mules 33-27. Still, Colby continued to contain them defensively as they forced another six turnovers. The Mules also dominated the boards as they outscored Williams eight to two on second-chance points. King led the scoring again for the second half with seven points. Lawson and
Alec McGovern each had six.
Sixth seed Colby will play for the championship tomorrow at noon against two seed Hamilton. In the Mules last regular season home game, they beat the Continentals 87-70 February 11th. In that game,
Noah Tyson led with 15 points with McGovern and
Jonah Obi right behind with 14 points a piece.
Will King netted 10 points and eight assist.
