Amherst, Mass. - To open the 2023-24 season the Colby Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving team headed to Amherst to take on the Mammoths. Despite the Mules efforts, the women fell to the hosts 178.5 to 114.5 as well as the men 166-122, yet they still pulled together multiple first place finishes.
Starting with the women's events,
Sarah Michael got things rolling for Colby with a first place in the 100 backstroke (58.65) followed closely by
Annabelle Mullin who snatched second place (1:00.60). Later on Michael and Mullin finished first and second again, this time in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:08.62 and 2:10.94. Next up,
Lily Moy was able to take the win in the 100 freestyle snatching a time of 54.51. In the 200 butterfly,
Lexi Asch took the crown with a time of 2:13.05 as
Skylar Yoham did the same in the men's event with a time of 1:54.67. More on the men's side of competition,
Neil Mortimer placed first in the 50 freestyle (21.58) while
Spencer Cohen snagged first in the 200 backstroke (1:52.57).
In the relay events, the women placed first in the 200 freestyle consisting of Moy,
Anna Coleman,
Emma Cheung, and Mayo notching a time of 1:38.96, as the men did the same in their 200 freestyle relay consisting of
Brandon Xiong,
Ethan Chang, Mortimer, and
Allen Zhu.
The Colby Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving team will look to bounce back at Hamilton tomorrow to take on the Continentals as well as the Trinity Banthams starting at 11:00am.
