Cambridge, Mass. - The Colby Women's Basketball team grabbed their second win of the season over MIT Tuesday night 70-63. The Mules are now 2-1 on the season while the Engineers drop to 2-2.
Colby got off to a hot start taking the first quarter with a commanding 26-13 lead as MIT went on a scoring drought for the last five minutes of the quarter. The Mules were able to end the half up 11 while shooting a respectable 55.6% from the field and hitting four of their six three pointers. Heading into the final frame the Engineers were able to pull within four but Colby stayed on top to take the seven point 70-63 victory.
As a team the Mules racked up 40 points in the paint, a big factor towards the win, compared to MIT's 18. Colby first-years stole the show as
Kate Olenik tallied 22 points and eight rebounds to go along with three steals and two blocks.
Ana Von Rumohr and
Amelia Hanscom, both coming off the bench, combined for 25 points and eight boards.
Carter McGloon pinched in nine points and four rebounds.
Next up, Colby will host their Tip Off Tournament on Mayflower Hill this weekend taking on New England College Saturday November 18th at 1:00pm. Sunday's matchup is TBD taking on either Thomas or Babson at 1:00pm or 3:00pm depending on the results of Saturday's games.
