Waterville, Maine — Colby showed up for Homecoming Weekend. The Mules earned a 7-1 win against Maine Maritime Academy, advancing their season record to 5-6-2.
Colby set the tone of today's game with an early blocked shot by Myles Cullen in the first 30 seconds. After a foul call on Maine Maritime, Colby's Mario Simoes was granted a penalty kick, which led to Colby's first goal of the game. This was Simoes' fourth goal of the season. In the 16th minute, Maine Maritime scored their first and only goal of the game, tying it up 1-1. In the middle of the first half, Colby scored back-to-back goals to gain a wider lead. Assisted by Myles Culley, Joseph Beshel scored Colby's second goal, and about a minute later, Mario Simoes scored Colby's third goal. Simoes was assisted by Braden Jondro. Colby ended the first half with a 3-1 lead after dominating offensively. They tallied 17 shots for the half, displaying their aggressive offensive line.
To start the second half, Myles Culley attempted a shot that missed high of the net. In the 55th minute, Mario Simoes scored again to put the Mules three goals ahead of Maine Maritime. Only about 15 seconds later, the Mules came back at Maine Maritime with another shot on the net, resulting in a goal for Nicholas Donnelly. Despite a 5-1 lead, Colby wasn't done testing Maine Maritime. In the 60th minute, Myles Culley's shot attempts throughout the game finally fell into place scoring Colby's sixth goal. To secure the win, Nicholas Donnelly scored his second goal of the game and his sixth of the season. The Mules finished today's game, the last at home, with a 7-1 win.
For Colby's last game of the season, they will head to Lewiston, Maine to play Bates College on Tuesday, October 24th at 3:00 p.m.
