Colby's Win Streak Snapped by Hamilton

Waterville, Maine - Colby's three game win streak came to an end today as Hamilton won 17-6, giving the Continentals their 4th win in 6 games against the Mules. Colby falls to 3-3 on the season while Hamilton gains their first win. The Mules struggled to get anything going offensively and injuries on defense stifled a possible comeback.

It was a defensively dominated first quarter as both teams traded four and outs to take the game scoreless into the second. A long drive set up a Hamilton field goal at the Colby 29 yard line but Andrew Hart got a strong arm up to keep the Continentals off the board. The resulting drive was positive for the Mules as two time NESCAC special teams player of the week, Christos Tzoumakas, converted a 39 yard field goal to give Colby the lead. But Hamilton took the momentum into the half as a 34 yard touchdown made the score 7-3 going into the break.

Coming out the half, the defensive theme remained eminent until Thomas Keeling found Matt McHugh for a 51 yard play, setting Colby up inside the red zone. This play constituted almost half of McHugh's 120 yards on the day, giving him his second 100 yard receiving gamehis first was against Williams as he totaled 160 yards. Although the Mules couldn't find the end zone, Tzoumakas converted a 26 yard field goal with ease. Colby still trailed 6-7. The fourth quarter opened up the game as Hamilton scored to stretch their lead to 8. Both teams traded punts but it was the Continentals who broke the deadlock, sealing the game with a late field goal. The action concluded as the Mules couldn't come up with an answer, ending the game 6-17.

Although Colby had trouble finding the end zone, Keeling had another big passing game this season, posting a career high 260 yards. On the defensive end, Julian Young continued to hold his own as he had his fourth game of the year with double digit tackles. He was helped out by big games from Jack Mullen and Lincoln Merrill as they had 1.5 sacks and two pass breakups respectively.

The Mules host Middlebury next Saturday as they look to bounce back from a tough loss. With three games remaining and hopes to end the season with a positive record, Colby will feel the pressure against the 4-1 Panthers.
