Beverly, Massachusetts - As a campus wide cold epidemic spread throughout Colby, the Field Hockey team brought the headache down to Endicott this weekend. The Mules bounced back from a losing streak to grab an emphatic 5-2 win over the Gulls, taking them to 4-9 on the season while also giving Endicott only their fourth loss of the season. Colby's offense turned a corner in this game as they gave the defense a much needed break, registering 12 shots on target, with one of those being Sophomore
Lilly Conway's first goal of her career and one of three on the night.
Colby were on the upside of a back and forth first quarter, as both teams tested the keepers leading to an eventual goal by Conway to open the scoring. The momentum carried over into the second as
Lillian Kistner found Conway for her and the team's second of the game. Endicott grabbed one back not long after, as they dominated the rest of the half, forcing two saves from
Emily Loeb. The Mules led going into the half, 2-1.
Both teams came out of half on the front foot. Colby had two shots on framed saved while Endicott where the first to hit the score sheet out of the break, tying the game up at 2. But only a minute later Conway continued to torch the Gull defense as she notched a third goal, giving her a hat trick on the night. The remaining quarter brought another flurry of goals as Colby fought to stay ahead. Kistner got another assist as she found
Erin Quirk for Colby's fourth. Although the Mules dominated the last fifteen minutes, posting 8 shots, Endicott pulled one back with ten minutes to go, keeping the game a tight contest. But with five minutes to go,
Elizabeth Takoudes picked her corner and sealed the game for the Mules to take the score to 5-3.Â
Although the stat sheet suggested the teams were evenly split, Colby's guile got them the win -- a much needed and well deserved one for that matter. Looking to double their win streak, the Mules host in-state rival Bowdoin this Wednesday at the Bill Alfond Field at 7pm. With two games left to go in the season, Colby looks to go out on top especially against their closest NESCAC rivals.
