Women's Basketball Battles #22 Trinity

Hartford, Conn. - The Colby Women's Basketball team began NESCAC play Friday night on the road at #22 Trinity.  The two opponents played neck-and-neck through the first frame, but the hosts opened a lead in the second en route to a 67-43 victory.  Trinity improved to 12-1 while Colby fell to 4-7.

Colby got on the board first and held a tie halfway through the first quarter (9-9 after five minutes) before Trinity started edging away.  With a few key players returning to the lineup for the first time since November, six different Mules tallied baskets in the first ten minutes of play, with nine different Colby players scoring throughout the contest.

First-year Chelsea Ibenegbu led the squad with a season-high 12 points, marking her second consecutive double-digit scoring performance.  She and Adaobi Nebuwa chipped in five rebounds apiece to pace the Mules.  Tori Varsamis led the Bantams with 14 points, shooting 4-4 from behind the arc.

Colby is back in action Saturday against Wesleyan.
