Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Colby Falls on the Road at Wesleyan

Middletown, Conn. - The Colby College Men's Soccer team opened it NESCAC calendar ont he road Saturday in Connecticut, facing off against the Cardinals of Wesleyan University.  Despite scoring three goals on the road against a NESCAC opponent for the first time since the 2018 conference title run, the Mules fell to Wesleyan 4-3, falling to 1-1-0 on the season.

"I'm very proud of the effort from the entire team today," said head coach Ewan Seabrook. "To score three goals away from home in the NESCAC, and especially against such a well coached team as Wesleyan, is not to be sniffed at. There's no doubt the guys are disappointed to leave without points today, but credit to Wesleyan for finishing their chances."

Mario Simoes opened the scoring 13 minutes into play, dribbling past the defense to the right of the box, and lofting a ball to the back of the net from distance.  After Wesleyan knotted the score, the Mules took the lead into half when Colby's top scorer from 2021 Josh Rubin intercepted a back pass and one-touched the ball past the keeper.

The Cardinals tallied the first two goals of the second half, but Colby tied the match with less than 14 minutes to play on a penalty kick goal from 2021 NESCAC Rookie of the Year Ethan Franco.  The hosts provided the game-winner with under 10 minutes to play, taking the match 4-3.  Brandan McCarthy tallied six saves in net for Colby.

Colby remains on the road Sunday in Castine, Maine to face off against the Mariners from Maine Maritime in the midst of a stretch that sees the Mules take the pitch for four games in a nine-day stretch.
