Waterville, MAINE - Colby hosted New England College yesterday, May 3rd, in their last regular season game of the year. Over the weekend before the game, the Mules swept Trinity in a three game series. They looked to and succeeded in keeping their momentum going against NEC, winning 5-0.
The game was scoreless through six and a half innings, but Colby broke it open in the bottom of the seventh with one run. They kept NEC scoreless in the top of the 8th, and put the game away by scoring four in the bottom of the same inning.
Matthew Panker led the team in hits with two, but it was
Cole Palmeri and
Marcus Forrester who earned the victory for the Mules. Palmeri had one hit for two RBIs and a run of his own. Forrester also had two RBIs, both of which came off a double in the bottom of the eighth.
Brady O'Brien,
Charlie Furlong, and
Clint Flippo each also had one hit of their own.
Michael Ciaccio got the start, pitching six shutout innings and allowing only four hits.
Charlie Jodka came in in relief and earned the win, pitching two shutout innings and allowing only one hit. Finally,
Jack Pletter saved the game and the shutout, pitching a perfect top the ninth.
Colby finished their season tied for the top record in the NESCAC east and will began their trip through the tournament against Wesleyan. They'll host the Cardinals for a double header on Saturday May 7th, with game one at 12:00 PM and game two at 3:00 PM. Then, they'll host Wesleyan again on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
