Box Score Hartford, CONN - Colby Baseball traveled to Hamilton College today, May 13th, to play the first game of the double elimination portion of the NESCAC tournament. This is both the Mules and the Continentals first time in the conference tournament since it began in 2001. Colby was without some key players today due to illness.
Brady O'Brien,
Cabot Maher, and Marcus Forester were all absent. Despite these absences the Mules were able to come out on top over Hamilton, outlasting their opponent 6-4.
Nicholas Thompson got the start and the win for Colby baseball, pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Jack Bohrer pitched an inning and two thirds and
Julian Erro pitched the remaining inning and a third. Bohrer allowed the other run on two hits. The Mules allowed only five walks on the day.
Hamiliton earned the first run of the day in the top of the first, but Colby quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the third and another three in the bottom of the fourth. Putting them on top 6-1 through four innings. Hamilton then scored two in the sixth and one in the top of the fourth. Thus, the Mules were able to outlast their opponent. It was
Clint Flippo who led the team in RBIs as he hit a three run homerun in the third, knocking in
Patrick McConnell and
Drew Miller. He also had a single on the day.
Patrick McConnell and
Cole Palmeri also had RBIs, McConnell with two as he doubled down the right field line in the fourth and Palmeri with one.
Since Middlebury defeated Amherst today, Colby will play the Panthers tomorrow, May 14th, at 2:00 and Hamilton will take on Amherst at 10:30 AM. The Mules will look to replicate their performance today with great pitching, hitting, and fielding.
