Finishing Regular Season Strong, Mules Dominate Bates 18-5

Lewiston, Maine - The Mules traveled to play Bates for their final regular season game.  The Mules looked to clinch the CBB title in the rain on Wednesday night.  Despite the challenging conditions and traveling on a weeknight, the Mules came home as CBB champions and an 18-5 win against conference rivals.

In the first quarter alone Colby scored 7 goals to the Bobcats' zero.  The only quarter in which Bates was able to score was in the second, giving sophomore keeper Sarah Hearns three shutout quarters and six saves.  The Mules had a total of 19 groundballs with many coming from defensive rebounds and caused turnovers.  On the draw circle, seniors Sarah Stark and Eliza Dean dominated with 12 won between the two of them.  Additionally, of the 26 draw controls Colby won 15 of them, giving them ample opportunity to run their lethal attack.

On attack, junior Annie Eddy scored eight goals for her team, while Gianna Bruno had five goals and three assists and Grace Toner had three goals and two assists.  These three are consistent attackers throughout the season and were able to show up against Bates in their final game of the season.  Going into the second half the score was 9-5 Colby, and in typical Mules fashion they scored 9 unanswered goals through the second half.

Ranked third in the nation for Division III, the Mules will play Bowdoin on Saturday at 1:00pm in the quarterfinal game.
