Waterville, Maine- Friday, the Mules honored their two seniors,
Ashley Ketchum and
Laura Powell for their dedication to the softball program over their four years at Colby College. Colby ended up defeating the Polar Bears 5-0 with 9 hits on the day and outstanding defense.
Â
Colby started the scoring as
Amanda Cabral hit her fourth home run of the year to center field to give the Mules a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Logan Luebbe and Cabral both hit RBI singles in the third inning, each scoring a runner for the Mules to take a 3-0 lead through three innings. Luebbe and Cabral managed multiple hits for Colby, with Luebbe going 3-for-4 at the plate with two stolen bases to lead the offensive charge. The Mules added runs in the fifth inning with Cabral bringing in her third run of the game, and
Jackie Hill hitting an RBI double to left field to put the Mules up 5-0.Â
On top of a strong offensive performance by the Mules,
Abby Orso threw her second no-hitter of the season, striking out nine to keep the Polar Bears scoreless through seven innings. Perhaps the most memorable part of the afternoon was senior
Ashley Ketchum making the final play during her last home game appearance as a Mule.
Â
Colby will play again Saturday against Bowdoin College in a doubleheader down in Brunswick with games slated to start at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.Â
