Waterville, Maine- The Colby Mules Softball team took on Husson University Saturday. The Eagles ended 2021 ranked #1 in the Northeast region and #20 across NCAA with a 29-3 record. Colby split the doubleheader, falling in game one by a score of 5-2 and sprinting to a mercy rule victory in the second game 8-0.

In the first game, all scoring happened in the first three innings.
Payton Crowley started for the Mules, pitching 3.0 innings, and striking out three Eagles.
Chloe Wilcox and
Logan Luebbe would each bring home a runner in the third inning to bring the score to 5-2 in Husson's advantage.
Sam Ahlholm relieved Crowley, pitching 4.0 innings with four strikeouts and shutdown Husson's offense for the remainder of the game. Although the Mules could not take the win in game one, they displayed strong defense, recording no errors in the game.

Game two for the Mules started off with
Logan Luebbe hitting a home run in the first inning, to give the Mules the early 1-0 lead. Colby in the second inning would score two more runs, coming from RBIs from senior
Laura Powell and
Chloe Wilcox. The Mules would score in every innings except for the fifth in the six-inning game.
Amanda Cabral and
Abby Orso would hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning, totaling in a season-high of three home runs in a single game.
Amanda Cabral led the game with two RBIs and three hits for the Mules.
Abby Orso pitched went the distance for the Mules and delivering a perfect game, the first in program history. The game was also the first no-hitter of Orso's collegiate career.

The Mules play again at home on Tuesday, April 5, against the University of Maine Farmington at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM at the Softball Complex on the campus of Colby College.
