Colby Baseball Leaves Florida After a 6-1 Showing

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Lake Myrtle, FLORIDA - The Colby Baseball team finished their spring break in Florida after playing seven games. Since the 20th, the Mules played five games, winning four of them. The first game was Monday March 21st against Johns Hopkins University, the second was Wednesday March 23rd against Elmhurst University, the third and fourth games were against Keuka College and both took place on March 25th. Finally, the last game of the spring trip took place on the 26th, against John Hopkins University for a second time.

The first game against Johns Hopkins University took place at the Chain O'Lakes Complex Stadium and saw 127 fans in attendance. Colby scored early and often in this one, putting up three runs in the first, two runs in the second, four in the third, and three in the sixth. This led the Mules to earn a 12-7 win over Johns Hopkins. Jack Pletter got the win, improving his record for the season to 1-0. Ethan Hillenberg and Clint Flippo both led the team in hits, with three. Hillenberg also led the team in RBIs with two, and had a double and a walk as well. Flippo was also walked twice.

Game two was another win, this time against Elmhurst University, improving to 6-0 for the season. Ryan Grecco earned the win for Colby Baseball, pitching a great game in which Elmhurst only earned a total of two runs. The Mules scored one run in the first, two in the sixth, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth. Colby had 14 hits to create these 12 runs. Marcus Forrester, Brady O'Brien, Cabot Maher, Cole Palmeri, and Clint Flippo all led the team in hits with two. Palmeri led in RBIs with three; he also had a double, a base on balls, and one run of his own.

The third and fourth games were played in a doubleheader against Keuka College, on Friday March 25th. The first game saw The Mules winning 6-3, and the second 11-10. Matthew Scibilio got the win in the first game, as Keuka was only able to put up three runs, with one in the first, and two in the 10th, and only extra, inning. Colby struggled to put up runs in this one, being shut out until the 7th inning when they were able to put up one crucial run to force the game into extra innings. At that point, the flood gates broke and Colby earned five runs in the top of the 10th. Clint Flippo once again led the team in hits and RBIs, with three and two respectively. Two of Flippo's three hits were doubles. He also had two stolen bases.

The second game of the day, saw Cabot Maher earning his second win of the season. The game only went eight innings, beginning at 2:00 PM and taking three and a half hours. An astounding 900 fans were in the audience. After the defensive stalemate of the first game of the day, this one went pretty much the opposite direction. The Mules scored three runs in the first, two in the second, two in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the eighth. Marcus Forrester and Genki LeClair led the team in hits with three. LeClair also led the team in RBIs with two and had a double. Forrester had a solo home run, creating his RBI in the game and one of the two runs of his own.

Unfortunately, the final game of the trip was the only loss of the break. The Mules lost this time 2-12. Elijah Cohen took the loss, making his season record 1-1. The Mules put togeth five hits in the game, two of which were by short stop Charlie Furlong. He also had an RBI for one of Colby's two runs.

The Mules have had an amazing start to the season, and with that an astounding spring trip. They will look to continue their dominance, and bounce back from their only loss, when they host University of Maine Farmington on Wednesday, March 30th, at 4:00 PM.
