Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Ranked Second Heading into Final Regular Season Games

Waterville, Maine - The Mules challenged the Camels once more and once again, the Mules came out on top.  This time, it didn't take until the third period for the Mules to score.

The first period remained scoreless.  The Camels came out strong, looking to avenge their loss from the night prior.  Colby was only able to let loose 6 shots, but Nina Prunster kept them in the game with 13 saves.  Each team had two power play attempts but defense held strong and both teams went into the first intermission with no goals.

pettygroveHalfway through the second period, first year Georgia Pettygrove (pictured left) scored her first collegiate goal to put the Mules up 1-0, assisted by Abby Wick.  Five minutes later Meg Rittenhouse, recently named player of the week by the NESCAC, scored with an assist from Lexi Cafiero, named player of the week the week before Rittenhouse.  Prunster added on nine more saves to send the Mules into second intermission up 2-0, a very different position from the first time they played the Camels.

In the third period, Colby outshot Connecticut 13-7.  Just 2:56 into the period, Cafiero scored with an assist from Wick.  Just minutes later, Connecticut scored against the Mules taking away the opportunity to turn eight shutouts into nine.  The final score was 3-1 and the Mules walk away ranked second in the NESCAC with only three losses this season.

The Mules will host Amherst College at Colby on February 19th and 20th for the final weekend of the regular season.  Amherst is ranked just behind Colby and the weekend of play will surely be emotional as the women play for their seven seniors.
