Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Colby Improves to 2-0 Against New England College

Waterville, MAINE - The Colby Women's Basketball team hosted the Colby Tip-Off Classic (the second game of their season) today, Saturday, November 19th. The New England College Pilgrims made the trip to Waterville for the 2:00 PM tip off, but it was the Mules who earned a 57-49 victory to continue the 2022-23 campaign 2-0.

Colby jumped out early, establishing a dominant 18-6 lead after the first frame.  The Mules lead proved to be insurmountable, as the closest the Pilgrims came to taking the lead back was four points. Colby led the second 18-16 behind six points and three assists from Caroline Smith.  New England College won the third quarter 15-5, limiting the lead to four heading into the final frame.  Five different Mules helped close out the game with points in the fourth quarter, led again by Smith with seven and Gabrielle Hemenes with five.

Smith led the way with 14 points, seven assists, and five rebounds for Colby.  She played 34 minutes and went 4-11 from the field.  Hemenes scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in only 15 very efficient minutes. Chelsea Ibenegbu was next in line with nine while also recording three steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Five other Mules also added to Colby's final scoring tally: Sophie Webb (8); Carter McGloon (7); Lydia Mordarski (5); Bray Hunter (2); and Lauren Cho (1).

Colby Women's Basketball is back in action tomorrow, November 20th, when they host Colby-Sawyer College at 2:00 PM.
