Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Volleyball team splits their Friday night doubleheader after falling to Wheaton (Mass.) College 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-27, 25-10, 15-17) and claiming victory over Bowdoin College 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 25-12).
In the Wheaton game, both teams were evenly matched as it came down to the final set but the Mules were not able to capitalize. It was so close that the hitting percentages between the two teams (.131 and .137) were almost identical. Some highlights for Colby include
Sydney Sick's 24 assists and
Bella Schumacher's 30 digs. As for kills,
Hannah Wyllie led with 12 followed by
Emma Davis with nine and
Sam Schultz with eight.
In the second match against Bowdoin, the Mules rallied back after losing set one to grab the win in the next three straight sets. Colby finished the game with a team total of 13 aces compared to Bowdoin's six. Wyllie and Davis led in kills again at 12 and 11 each while
LJ Grant contributed eight. Sick finished the night adding 32 more assist as Schumacher finished with 22 more digs.
The Mules, who currently sit fifth in the NESCAC, will wrap up the regular season next weekend in Waterville with two key conference matchups between Williams College and Amherst College who both sit just above Colby in the standings (fourth and third place).
