Waterville, MAINE - The Colby Mules hosted the Bowdoin Polar Bears yesterday, January 23rd, at 3:00 PM. The two teams have a long storied rivalry and each take the game personally. Colby Basketball won the game 78-65, but the game never even felt that close.
The Mules took control of the game very early on and never let up. In the first half,
Noah Tyson caught fire from three point. He was 4-6 from beyond the arc for 12 points. Tyson was creating off the dribble as well as spotting up, providing a great spark for the offense. Colby shot 46.7% and 46.7% from beyond the arc. The defense was astounding as well, as the Mules collected five steals and blocked two shots. By the end of the first Colby led 41-34.
The efficiency for Colby got even better in the second half, as the team shot 52% from the field. They also had five blocks and two steals, including a block where
Jonah Obi viciously sent the ball out of bounds. Tyson had another nine points completely off of threes, shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc in the half.
The Mules did a fantastic job creating turnovers and getting out on transition with them, creating 18 points in that fashion. Colby's bench also dominated Bowdoin's, outscoring them 24-9.
Noah Tyson and
Matt Hanna had the best games of anyone, on either team. Tyson had 21 points on 7-12 shooting from three, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Hanna had 14 points, 6 assists, a block, and 3 steals.
Cooper Wirkala also had a fantastic game, scoring 11 points on 4-6 shooting to pair with two blocks and a steal.
Colby Men's Basketball should be proud of their performance in this match up and will look to build off of it when they host their other NESCAC rival, Bates College, on Friday, January 28th at 7:00 PM.
