Waterville, ME - Colby Women's Basketball faced the Bowdoin Polar Bears on Saturday in their fifth game of the NESCAC season. The Mules fell to the Polar Bears, with a final score of 55-67. 

The game opened up with an early three-pointer by Keagan Dunbar '22 that propelled the Mules into an early run. The Mules maintained a relatively steady lead until late in the first quarter when a successful free throw by the Polar Bears tied up the game. The second quarter saw a lot of scrappy play, with many of the Mules points coming in from free throws. The Polar Bears carried the momentum of their five-point lead into the second quarter, landing multiple layups to hold their lead and expand it to ten by the end of the half.

The second half began with a score of 23-33. The period got off to a slow start, with only five points scored in the first six minutes. The pace picked back up with a successful free throw by Chiamaka Ubani '22 followed by a three-pointer by Carly Christofori '22. From here, there was a lot of back-and-forth play between the two teams, once again with the Mules landing multiple free throws, but the Polar Bears were still able to hold their lead going into the final quarter. The Mules made a comeback early in the first quarter, with a layup by Adaobi Nebuwa '24 rallying a seven-point streak as the Polar Bears were held scoreless. Nevertheless, the Polar Bears were able to maintain their lead and hold the Mules to emerge from the game victorious. 

The game ended with a final score of 55-67. Dunbar and Caroline Smith '24 led the team in points scored, landing 15 and 12, respectively and composing nearly half of all points scored by the Mules. Carter McGloon '24 and Christofori led the team in rebounds, both landing six. 

Colby Women's Basketball is next set to travel to Lewiston to face the Bates Bobcats on Friday, January 28 at 7PM EST.
