Baseball with Historic Win at Southern Maine

Box Score Gorham, Maine - The Mules had a historic win tonight against the USM Huskies.  Colby beat the Huskies, a consistently dominant Division III team, 4-0 for the third time in program history.   The Mules broke the 16-game win streak the Huskies had against them since 2001.  The last time Colby was victorious in the matchup was in 2000 at home, so the victory was even sweeter with a win on the Huskies' home turf.

The first two innings went scoreless as the Mules adjusted to playing an opponent with eight more games under their belt.  In the third inning Colby was able to score two runs against USM.  Two more runs were scored by the Mules in the fifth inning and the rest of the game remained scoreless, a testament to the challenge the Huskies put up for the Mules.  Not only did the Colby offense pull through tonight but the defensive squad held their own, not letting in any runs for USM.  Coach Jesse Woods said of the game and pitchers, "a great team win tonight against one of the premier baseball programs in the country.  There were a lot of guys working together for this win and Elijah Cohen gave us a great start.  Julian Erro came in and kept a really good offense down as did Matthew Scibilio. Also, Cabot Maher was fantastic again both at the plate and on the mound."

This is, no doubt, an extremely exciting win for the Mules.  With a win against the Huskies, ranked 11th in the nation for Division III baseball, the team is set up to start their NESCAC season with a little more confidence and trust that with continued hard work they will come out on top of some of the historically dominant teams in the conference.

The Mules will host Tufts University this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Jumbos.  Please remember to remain safe and follow college protocol around COVID.  When in doubt, stream it from the Colby Baseball schedule webpage!
