Waterville, Maine - Colby Women's Basketball came out strong today against the University of Southern Maine Huskies with a decisive win to start off the season of game play. Months of work and compliance to COVID-19 guidelines as a community have allowed the team an opportunity to play a real game against a local Division III school. The wait was worth it and the excitement palpable.

Colby held a 24 to 14 lead after a fast paced first quarter.
Chiamaka Ubani (11) had several key steals to set up fast break baskets.
Adaobi Nebuwa (32) led the way scoring with eight points in the first.
After another dominant quarter Colby led at the half 39 to 22 over USM. The fast play continued with USM attempting a full court press at the start of the quarter. A key assist by
Nayeli Germosen (5) helped break the press and keep Colby's momentum. Overall Colby's 50% shooting percentage from the three point line on 6 attempts and an overall percentage of 52 allowed Colby to dominate. Nebuwa,
Alisha Aube (33), and
Keagan Dunbar (21) led the way scoring with eight, eight, and seven points respectively. Additionally, Colby shot well from the free throw line with an 83.3% shooting percentage on 12 attempts. Defensively, Aube, Ubani, and
Mycala Carney (23) dominated in rebounds which allowed Colby to limit USM to only 22 points. Colby continued to push the pace and maintain their strong shooting in the second half.
Pace of play slowed down in the third quarter but Colby maintained the pressure on USM with a score of 52 to 37. Germosen and Aube stood out respectively with a key finish in the paint and a dominant block late in the quarter.
Colby finished with a win, a score of 68 to 51, over the University of Southern Maine. Carney led the way offensively in the second half with 17 points with a shooting percentage of 57 for the game. Dunbar, Aube, and Nebuwa were strong scorers with 14, 10, and 10 points respectively. On the boards Aube and Carney had eight and seven rebounds respectively allowing Colby to control the flow of the game. As a team, Colby also had a free throw percentage of 78.6 and an overall shooting percentage of 42.6.
Colby Women's Basketball will be making the short trek to Gorham to play the Huskies again tomorrow March 7th looking for another dominating win to end their first weekend of game play.
