Colby secured the first seven innings against the Monks, scoring 11 runs to their 5. They had nine different Mules score, starting off strong with two runs in the top of the second, one of them a home run from
Tommy McGee (22). Coach
Jesse Woods said of their first day competing against another team, "It was a great day of baseball for the Mules. It was so much fun to compete against someone not wearing a Colby uniform. Game one we had a lot of guys contribute but
Tommy McGee really led the way for us, having multiple quality at bats." The Mules really pulled away from the Monks in the last three innings, scoring seven runs and holding them to zero. When asked for a quote, Coach Woods mentioned the job well done by the pitching coaches and
Jack Pletter (45),
Frank Driscoll (27), and Eli Cohen (28).
The second game did not fare as well for the Mules. In the bottom of the third the Mules let in five runs, a deficit they were not able to close in the remaining part of the game. Coach Woods said of the whole afternoon, "We played 13 great innings of baseball today, one inning beat us in game two. Overall it was a fun and exciting day for us and we're looking forward to the next opportunity." The optimism and excitement for the coming weeks is quite obvious and we look forward to seeing the Mules develop over the course of this season.
