Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mules Win Tip Off Classic, Top UMass Boston

Waterville, ME - Colby Women's Basketball moved onto the second round of the Colby Tip Off Classic today to face the UMass Boston Beacons. The Mules managed to maintain their undefeated season, defeating the Beacons with a final score of 67-57.

The first quarter showed a strong offensive from both teams, with both making 17 field goal attempts. The quarter proved physical, with ten fouls called between the two teams and nearly half of the points scored in the paint. The Mules capitalized on their advantage on rebounds to gain multiple second-chance opportunities at the net. The quarter ended with an electric buzzer-beating three pointer by Chiamaka Ubani '22, carrying the Mules into the second quarter with a score of 19-18. The Mules reasserted their dominance in the second quarter, once again out-rebounding and out-scoring the Beacons. While the Beacons were unable to connect on any of their five three point attempts, the Mules went 3-7, extending their lead to six at the half.

The third quarter proved the most lopsided of the game, with the Mules outpacing the Beacons 24-10. Great field goal shooting and strong perimeter defense allowed the Mules to control the tempo of the game. The Beacons fought back in the fourth quarter, outsourcing teh Mules by ten. The Mules were unable to convert a three pointer, yet their ability to hold and maintain possessions ultimately led them to victory. Colby used the free throw line to their advantage, converting 13-16 in the game. The Beacons attempted to orchestrate a comeback, but the Mules' lead remained wide by the end of the game.

Colby Women's Basketball is next set to face the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, November 30 at 5PM.
