Visiting Continentals Top Mules Behind Big 2nd Quarter

Waterville, Maine – The Colby Football team hosted Hamilton for their annual homecoming game. Hamilton came out with the 27-14 win, improving to 2-1 as the Mules fall to 1-2.

Colby came into this game looking to carry the momentum from last week's victory at Amherst. The crowd was packed, giving the game a great atmosphere for the Mules. The defense for the third straight week came out hot, getting off the field quick and putting the ball in the hands of the offense. Matt Hersch drove the team all the way down into the Hamilton red zone, but the Mules couldn't come out with any points after a missed field goal. Hamilton got the ball back and drove straight down into Colby territory. They looked primed to score, but EJ Brister was able to make a massive fourth down stop to keep the game scoreless.

The second quarter was all Hamilton. They got the ball back and were able to score quickly on a deep 57 yard pass from Joe Cairns to make it 7-0. They rode the momentum, scoring the next two times they got the ball to make the score 21-0, then got a pick six to make it 27-0 going into the half.

Colby came out hot in the third quarter, putting together a ten play 87-yard drive that resulted in a Devin Marrocco touchdown. The defense got a quick three and out and Colby was able to cash in another touchdown, this time to Jack Sawyer. The momentum was starting the shift, as Sawyer's touchdown made it 27-14.

Colby knocked on the door a couple more times but couldn't put any more points on the board. The defense kept Hamilton locked up all second half though, not giving up any points. Nick Donatio was everywhere, leading the team with nine total tackles.

Outside of the second quarter, Colby played a very solid game. They look to put this week behind them and pick up a win next week as they travel to play Williams. That game is be on Saturday, October 9 at 1:00 PM.
