Mules earn tie after hard fought battle against Amherst, 1-1 OT

AMHERST, Mass.-  The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team scored a shorthanded goal to earn the tie against Amherst College 1-1.

GAME NOTES:  Amherst entered the weekend undefeated in their last six games. Earning the tie, Colby moves to 7-9-3 overall (3-8-2 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Paddy Daley (photo inset) scored the shorthanded goal at 1:46 of the second period. Alex Bourhas and Michael Thomas with the assists.
  • Andrew Tucci had another great game between the pipes, stopping 35 shots.
  • Logan Clarke and Michael Morrissey tied with 4 shots on goal.
  • The penalty kill held the Mammoths to 1 for 7 on the night.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MAMMOTHS:

  • Joey Lupo scored the goal at 10:03 of the opening period. Sean Wrenn and Pieter Von Steinberg assisted on the power play.
  • Giancarlo Ventre tallied 25 saves on the night.
  • The Mammoths controlled the faceoffs, 46-29.

KEY STATS:

  • Daley scored his first goal of the season and third point of his career.
  • Bourhas now sits at five goals and five assists on the season.

QUOTE: "We battled very hard tonight.  Amherst was coming into the game unbeaten in their last 6 games so to get a solid tie on the toad was good. Tucci played well in net and we had a good third period with a great chance to score with just over 3 min left but failed to capitalize," said the Jack Kelley Head Coach for Colby Men's Hockey Blaise MacDonald.

NEXT MATCHUP: Colby now travels to Hamilton College for the Saturday (2/8) conference game.. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00pm.
