Women's Ice Hockey honors seven on Senior Day

WATERVILLE, Maine -  The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team honored their senior class before the afternoon NESCAC match against Hamilton College. The Mules ended up dropping the contest to the Continentals 3-0.

GAME NOTES: Colby honored seven seniors that have made an impact in each of their own ways. Lily Santonelli, Moira Mullaney, Izzy Tegtmeyer, Cassidy Holzer, Taylor Methven, Tess Dupre and Halley Fine were introduced to the home crowd. Bios for each are below.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • The team finished 25 shots and had five power play opportunities. Unfortunately the puck, though very close at times, did not find the back of the net.
  • Nina Prunster (photo inset) finished with 31 saves on the day. Her record now sits at 6-3-1 overall.
  • Lexi Cafiero (seven) and Lauren Klein (five) led the Mules on shots.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE CONTINENTALS:

  • Michaela Giuttari scored the power play goal late in the first period to take the lead. Abby Kuhns and Kate Piacenza assisted at 17:34.
  • After a scoreless second period, Maddie Beitler  scored 5:35 into the final frame. Katherine Solohub assisted on the score.
  • Maddie Hong tallied  the final blow four minutes later. Beitler and Nancy Loh helped setup the play.
  • Sidney Molnar finished with 25 saves to earn the shutout.

KEY STATS:

  • Both teams finished with five infractions.
  • Faceoffs were controlled by Hamilton 33-24.

From Boston, Massachusetts number 3, Lily Santonelli, has provided unbelievable energy and character to the program over her four years. As a Computer Science and Mathematics double major, Lily has twice been named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team. Lily pushes herself and her teammates in practice on a daily basis and always comes to the rink smiling. Lily is joined today by her mom Jill, step-father Ben, and brother Mikey. Congratulations Lily! 

Assistant Captain Cassidy Holzer from Minneapolis, Minnesota is the consummate teammate. Cassidy has contributed at both the wing and center position over her career and is always has a team-first mentality. A Government Major and Managerial Economics Minor, Cassidy has twice earned a spot on the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team. Cassidy has a quiet presence but is loved by all and her work ethic on a daily basis is second to none. Cass is joined today by her mom Kelli, dad Dave, sister Samantha, and brother Kyle. Congrats Cass!

Assistant Captain Izzy Tegtmeyer is from Cincinnati Ohio. Izzy is a Government major and was a member of the NESCAC All-Academic Team in the winter of 2018. Izzy has been a constant contributor on the blue line since coming to Colby and is playing in her 94thcollegiate game as a Mule today. Showing up each day ready to go to work, Izzy's focused energy has been contagious. She's joined today by her mom Danna, dad Ken, and sister Maggie – Congratulations Izzy. 

Taylor Methven, from Andover, New Hampshire is a four-year senior who has contributed in many ways to the Colby Women's Hockey Team. Playing for two seasons Taylor was a physical defenseman with a strong shot from the point. Due to a career ending concussion Taylor was forced into a different role, but one she has absolutely thrived in as an Assistant Coach. Taylor is set to graduate as a Geology Major and a Mathematics and Environmental Science double Minor. Taylor is joined today by her dad Karl Colby Class of '76 and mom Diane. Congrats Taylor!

Two-time captain Moira Mullaney from Worcester, Massachusetts has been a steadfast force for the Mules during her time at Colby. Blocking shots, fiercely forechecking, and always wearing her heart on her sleeve, Moira has been a constant playmaker over her four years on the ice. A Creative Writing and Educational Studies double major Moira has twice been named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team. Moira is joined today by her mom Christine and dad Matthew – Congrats Mo!

Tess Dupre is a two-time captain from Dover, Massachusetts. Tess is a driven, passionate and humble leader who has worked tirelessly over the years to ensure great team chemistry during her time on the hill. An Educational Studies and History double major Tess has twice earned a spot on the winter NESCAC All-Academic Team. Joined today by her mom Denise and dad Mark, congratulations and thank you Tess!

NEXT MATCHUP: Colby now travels to Connecticut College on 2/14. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
