Colby comes back to take victory over the Camels, 3-1

NEW LONDON, Conn.-  The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team came back in the third period to win the game against Connecticut College, 3-1.

GAME NOTES:  Finding themselves down 1-0 after the first frame, the Mules scored late in the second period to tie the game. Colby capitalized on the penalty kill to take the 2-1 lead. That is the second short-handed goal of the season for the team. An empty net goal secured the win. The Mules improve to 13-5-3 on the season (8-3-2 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Stephanie Lane (photo inset) scored the tying goal  at the 18:53 mark of the second period. Bri Michaud-Nolan and Assistant Captain Cassidy Holzer assisted on the play.
  • Lexi Cafiero took the lead for the Mules at 6:19 in the final frame. The unassisted goal came from the only infraction in the third period.
  • Senior Captain Moira Mullaney (headline photo) secured the victory with the empty netter at 18:48.
  • In goal Nina Prunster finished with 16 saves. 

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE CAMELS:

  • Ashley Carbone took the lead for the Camels in the first period with a power play goal. Kylie Wilkes and Natalie Witkowski assisted at 12:37.
  • Carly Denora tallied 23 saves on the night in goal.
  • Carbone and Camile Phelan led the team with three shots.
  • The penalty kill held Colby's power play 0 for 4.

KEY STATS:

  • Cafiero now leads the team with 17 points (six goals, eleven assists).
  • Colby led in shots 26-17. The Mules also took the faceoff advantage 30-26.

NEXT MATCHUP: The two teams have the Saturday afternoon rematch tomorrow (2/15). Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
