Colby suffers first loss, falling to the Beacons 2-1

BOSTON, Mass.- Colby College Women's Ice hockey suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Beacons of the University of Massachusetts Boston 2-1.

GAME NOTES:  The Mules led in most categories  but could not capitalize on their opportunities in front of the net. With the loss Colby falls to 7-1-1. 

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • McKinley Karpa (photo inset) scored the lone goal for the Mules in the second period at 7:38. Tess Dupre (headline photo) collected her fourth assist on the season.
  • Nina Prünster finished with 23 saves. Her save percentage is now .957.
  • Colby's penalty kill did stellar, stopping the Beacons two power play tries.
  • Colby tallied 46 shots on the night

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE BEACONS:

  • Katie Leffler tied the game for the UMass-Boston 1-1 at the 8:04 mark in the second period.
  • Ellie Fallieras scored the game winner with 13 seconds left in the same period.
  • Caty Flagg had an amazing game in goal for the Beacons, finishing with 45 saves.

KEY STATS:

  • Karpa now leads the team in points with 12.
  • Both teams spent time in the penalty box, Colby with four infractions to the Beacons seven.

QUOTE: "Credit UMass-Boston on coming out and playing a great game tonight. Their goalie was outstanding and made key saves when they needed it. We battled but could have put forth a much better effort for a full 60 minutes," said Colby Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Holley Tyng.

NEXT MATCHUP: The Mules look to bounce back this weekend as they head to Wesleyan University for the weekend series. Game time is set for 7:00pm on 1/10.
