Colby holds on to tie Trinity, 2-2

WATERVILLE, Me- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team held on to earn the tie against Trinity College 2-2.  The Mules move to 10-4-3 overall (5-2-2 NESCAC).

GAME NOTES: At the end of regulation, Colby rattled off 3 shots to try to take win. Six Mules players finished with 4 or more shots.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Senior Captain Cassidy Holzer (photo inset) scored her first goal of the season at 17:48 of the first period. Moira Mullaney and Tay Munson assisted on the goal.
  • Lexi Cafiero regained the lead just past the halfway mark of the second frame. Tess Dupre assisted on the play at 12:23.
  • Cierra San Roman finished the night in net with 23 saves. Her save percentage now sits at .927 in conference play.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE BANTAMS:

  • Ellie Fellows started her two goal night in the second, scoring off the Sierra Lee assist at 8:39.
  • Down by one again, Fellows scored at the 6:25 mark of the third period. Lee tallied her second point with another assist.
  • Stephanie Garvis stopped 35 shots for the Bantams.

KEY STATS:

  • Colby poured on the shots on goal, finishing the night 37-25.
  • Faceoffs were also controlled by the Mules, 37-27.
  • Cafiero now leads the team with 15 points (5 goals, 11 assists).
  • Both teams could not capitalize with the skater advantage. Trinity went 0 for 5, as Colby went 0 for 6.

QUOTE: Speaking of the game, Colby's Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Holley Tyng commented, "We need to have more fight in us tomorrow. We need to stick to the game plan and execute."

NEXT MATCHUP: The teams will play again in the Alfond Rink tomorrow (2/1). Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
