Mules fall at home to Hamilton, 4-2

WATERVILLE, Maine-  The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team fell to the Hamilton College Continentals 4-2.

GAME NOTES: The Mules looked to have tied the game 2-2, with less than two minutes left in the first period. The Continentals scored a power play goal with 49 seconds left in the period to help secure the victory in the Alfond Rink. Colby now sees their record sit at 5-6-0 overall (2-5-0 in NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • J.P. Schuhlen (photo insert) cut the deficit at 15:01. Spencer Hewson and Sean Holly with the assists.
  • Less than four minutes later Mark Leprine (headline photo) rifled the puck in at the 18:47 mark. Logan Clarke and Schuhlen helped on the game tying play.
  • Andrew Tucci finished with 33 saves.
  • Alex Bourhas led the team with three shots.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE CONTINENTALS:

  • Bennett Morrison scored for the Continentals at 4:02 in the first. Joey Moore got his first point of the night with the assist.
  • Jordi Jefferson made it a 2-0 lead off a Sam Jones pass to score. Time of the goal 7:24.
  • Moore then regained the lead for Hamilton at the 19:11 mark. Morrison this time with the assist.
  • Nick Ursitti would tally the last goal for his team at 5:01 in the second period.
  • Anthony Tirabassi finished with 20 saves on the day.

KEY STATS:

  • The Mules power play had many chances in front of the goaltender but could not score on their 6 opportunities.
  • Both teams found themselves in the penalty box totalling ten infractions combined.

QUOTE: "We played a good team that was at the top of their game. We got down early and had to chase the game and their third goal on the power play really hurt us after just tying the game. Our guys battled to the buzzer," said the Jack Kelley Head Coach for Colby's Men's Hockey Blaise MacDonald.

NEXT MATCHUP: Colby now awaits for the University of New England to travel up to Waterville on Tuesday the 14th. The non-conference matchup is set for 7:00pm.
