Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team played three solid periods against Wesleyan University, beating the Cardinals 2-1. With the victory, Colby's record is 8-1-2. (5-0-1 in the NESCAC)
GAME NOTES: After battling back on Friday to earn the tie, the Mules took the lead in the first three minutes of the game and never looked back. Colby's penalty kill unit played great yet again, holding Wesleyan's power play unit to zero on six chances.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:
- Lexi Cafiero fired the puck past the goaltender at 2:24 in the first period. Sadie Kuhn and Aimely Michaud-Nolan (headline photo) assisted on the power play goal.
- Midway through the period, the Mules held off the Cardinals power play on back to back penalties.
- At the end of the first period, Colby led in shots 6-3.
- Lauren Klein scored her third goal of the season 1:21 in the second frame. Bri Michaud-Nolan and senior captain Moira Mullaney (photo inset) assisted on the score.
- Both teams had two power play attempts in the final frame, but neither could capitalize.
- Cierra San Roman finished in goal with 15 saves, moving her save percentage to .921.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE CARDINALS:
- 26 seconds after Klein netted the puck, Wesleyan's Cali Stevens scored. Ally Detre and Miranda Nestor helped set up the sequence.
- Wesleyan won the majority of the faceoffs, 28-22.
- After allowing the power play goal in the first, the Cardinals' penalty kill held back Colby's special teams.
- Allegra Grant had another great showing, tallying 26 saves.
KEY STATS:
- Now on the season, the penalty kill unit for Colby is .886.
- San Roman with the win moves to 4-0-1 overall.
- Mullaney led the Mules in shots with 5, as Klein won 10 faceoffs.
