San Roman stops 40 shots in playoff setback

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Cierra San Roman finished with 40 saves and Anna Cosentino had her seventh goal of the season for Colby College, but Connecticut College started strong and took a 3-1 victory in NESCAC women's hockey quarterfinal round play Saturday.

The Mules, the seventh seed, end the season at 8-13-4 overall.
 
Game highlights
* San Roman had 21 of her 40 saves in the first period when the Camels (15-5-5) pumped 23 shots on goal. Elena Gualtieri had goals at 6:55 and 11:05 to help Conn College lead 2-0 after one period. 
 
* After a scoreless second period, Erin Dillon scored at 4:49 for the Camels.
 
* Cosentino led the Mules in scoring this year with seven goals and seven assists in her first season. She broke up the shutout with 4:32 remaining on a power play goal. Cassidy Holzer and Tess Dupre (pictured) both had their fifth assists of the season on the play.
 
By the numbers
* San Roman ended the season with 564 saves.
 
* Bailey Mertz stopped 18 shots for the Camels.
 
* The Mules' held Connecticut College to no goals on five power play chances.
