Women's basketball drops road game against MMA

CASTINE, Maine -- The Colby College women's basketball team received 12 points apiece from Ainsley Burns and Haley Driscoll, but Maine Maritime Academy pulled away at the end of the third quarter on the way to a 67-59 win in non-conference play.

The Mules, now 6-6 overall, will play a NESCAC game at Trinity College on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Mariners moved to 6-5 overall.
 
By the numbers
* Driscoll was 5-for-6 from the field and added six rebounds for the Mules. Burns (pictured) nailed three 3-point shots and had five rebounds.
 
* Paige Russell scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds for Colby, while Emily Davis had a game-high 10 rebounds and scored eight points. Katie McCrum had a game-high six assists to go along with nine points.
 
* Alayne Felix scored 31 points on 9-for-13 shooting, had seven rebounds, and five assists for the Mariners. Mikayla Charters added 13 points.
 
* MMA had a huge advantage at the free-throw line. The Mariners were 18-for-30, including a 12-for-14 effort from Felix, and Colby shot 6-for-10.
 
Game highlights
* Colby had a 19-17 lead after the opening quarter in a back-and-forth 10 minutes. The Mariners took a tight 29-28 margin into intermission.
 
* The start of the third quarter mirrored the first half until the Mariners went on a 7-2 run in the last two minutes to take 46-41 lead into the final quarter. MMA led by as much as 12 points in the final quarter.
