Women's basketball falls to Huskies in non-conference game

GORHAM, Maine -- Despite a game-high 12 rebounds from Colby College guard Paige Russell, University of Southern Maine held on for a 48-44 victory in non-conference women's basketball Tuesday.

By the numbers
* Haley Driscoll led Colby with 13 points and five rebounds. Katie McCrum added 11 points and a pair of assists.
 
* Russell had 10 defensive rebounds to help the Mules (8-11 overall) have a 46-39 advantage on the boards. She also had eight points and two assists.
 
* Colby first-year Kara Petronio (pictured) had six points on 3-for-5 shooting and six rebounds. Jackie Albanese also had six points and pulled down five boards.
 
* Southern Maine (11-9) had a double-double from Chantel Eells, who had 14 points, 12 rebounds, five blocked shots, and three assists.
 
Game highlights
* The Mules led 16-13 after the first quarter, but the Huskies had a 19-7 scoring advantage in the next 10 minutes to go up 32-23 at halftime.
 
* Colby held the Huskies to just 6.7 percent shooting in the third quarter to tie the game at 38-38 heading into the final quarter.
 
* Driscoll scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to put the Mules up 40-38, but USM went on a 7-0 run to go up 45-40.
