* Colby, which had a great first quarter against defending league champion Trinity College last Saturday, had another good opening 15 minutes. The Mules went up 7-0 with just six seconds left in the first when Jack O'Brien hit Brandon Miner on a 6-yard scoring pass to cap a 15-play, 80-yard drive. Miner had his first collegiate touchdown when he caught the ball on the goal line.

 

* The Ephs bounced back with a 10-play, 57-yard drive that was finished on a 1-yard scoring run by Connor Harris with 7:01 to intermission. Williams quarterback Bobby Maimaron had a 14-yard completion to Justin Nelson to the Colby 1-yard line.

 

* The Ephs went ahead for good after a bad snap from center on a Colby punt gave Williams the ball at the Mule 12-yard line. Colby's defense did well to force a 20-yard field goal by Min Kyu Park for a 10-7 lead with 3:32 to play.

 

* Both punters got a workout in the third quarter, with both teams having a number of three-and-out drives.

 

* Williams needed just two minutes to go 71 yards in seven plays to get an insurance score for a 17-7 lead. Justin Burke caught a 19-yard scoring pass from Maimaron. The Ephs had a break when Nelson fumbled on a 31-yard reception, but the first-year wide receiver was able to corral the recovery.

 

* On the first play of Colby's ensuing drive, quarterback Jack O'Brien was sacked by Austin Thomas. The ball squirted loose and Chris Hattar picked it up for a 13-yard touchdown return.

 

* TJ Rothman had nine solo stops and 10 assists, two tackles for loss, and one pass break-up for Williams. Jarrett Wesner added 14 tackles and a blocked field goal, and Ben Anthony had 12 stops for the Ephs.

 

* Don Vivian made a team-high 12 tackles for Colby, while Craig Strand had six tackles, a sack, and one pass break-up. 

 

* Adam Regensburg had five of his seven punts go inside the 20-yard line and had a 42.7-yard average for the Ephs.

 

* Colby running back Jake Schwern (pictured) was effective again with 71 yards on 15 carries for a 4.7-yard per rush average. 

 

* Maimaron was 16-for-29 for 166 yards, while O'Brien was 26-for-45 for 141 yards. Nelson caught six balls for 98 yards for Williams. Ethan Smith, a first-year tight end for Colby, had eight catches for 49 yards.

 

* The Mules had an 18-13 margin in first downs, while Williams had a slight advantage in total offense (248-241). Colby had the ball for 37 minutes, 56 seconds.

 

Williams heads to Trinity for a 1:30 p.m. game next Saturday, while Colby is at Middlebury College for a 1 p.m. start.
