Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Colby College first-year Emery Dinsmore went 5.2 innings, struck out five, and walked none to help the Mules to a 3-1 victory over Trinity College in the first game of a NESCAC baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Bantams (10-9 overall, 2-3 NESCAC) took an 11-0 win in the second game.

Dinsmore (pictured) allowed six hits and gave up one earned run in moving to 2-1 on the season. Mule closer Jackson Ward pitched the final 1.1 innings to earn his third save. Ward did not allow a hit and struck out one.

The Mules (4-13 overall, 1-5 NESCAC East) scored in the second inning to go ahead for good. Tyler Mulberry singled and reached second on a fielder's choice and error on a ball hit by Andrew Sterup. Andrew Della Volpe pushed the runners up a base with after a ground out to first. Ward then had an RBI ground out to plate Mulberry.

Colby added two more runs in the top of the sixth, both coming with two outs in the inning. Matt Garcia singled and Mulberry smacked an RBI double to make it 2-0. Sterup followed with a single to bring in Mulberry from second.

Trinity had two outs and two runners on base when Cooper Mooney singled to bring in Johnny Stamatis in the bottom of the sixth. Ward entered for Dinsmore and got a pop up to third base to end the inning.

Mulberry finished with two hits, two runs, and one RBI. Ben Coleman had two stolen bases for the Mules, while Ryan Quinn had a double and a walk.

In the second game, only five of the 11 Trinity runs were earned. The Bantams' Alex Shafer threw 7.2 innings and allowed just two hits, struck out five, and walked one.

Colby starter Bobby Forese threw shutout baseball in the first four innings. He allowed five runs, but only two were earned after Trinity scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

John Baron got the final out of the fifth inning and worked 2.1 innings of shutout baseball for the Mules.

Matt Treveloni, Noah Paredes, and Quinn had hits for Colby.

Alex Rodriguez led the Bantams with three hits, two runs, and one RBI.
