Baseball drops game to Monks

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Despite a fine starting pitching performance from Taimu Ito, the Colby College baseball team fell 5-3 to St. Joseph's College in non-conference play Wednesday.

Ito pitched five innings, allowed just two hits, struck out three, and walked two against the third-ranked team in New England. Jackson Ward had a solid relief outing, striking out two and allowing one hit in 2.1 innings.

The Mules (3-11) led 3-0 after two innings and still held the lead until the sixth. The Monks (12-2) scored two in sixth inning and added three more in the seventh.

Matt Treveloni had three hits and scored a run for the Mules. Ryder Arsenault and Tyler Mulberry both had two hits and one RBI. Jackson Ward had a hit, one run, and an RBI.

Joey Murphy led the Monks with three hits and two runs, while Max McCoomb had two hits, two runs, and two RBI.

The Mules scored a lone run in the first inning when Mulberry brought in Ward with an RBI single. 

Ben Coleman got the Mules going in the second inning with a two-out walk. Treveloni followed with a single and Ward singled to plate Coleman. Arsenault followed with another single to score Treveloni.
