Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Ben Coleman hit a two-run double and later scored on a wild pitch to help Colby College score three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 7-4 win over University of Maine at Farmington on Monday at Coombs Field at the Colby Baseball/Softball Complex.

The Mules improve to 7-16 overall and will host Husson University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Beavers (2-14 overall) play at University of Maine on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth, William Wessman led off with a single to left field. Andrew Della Volpe also went to left field, but Chad Snowman made a sliding catch. Matt Mitchell was hit by a pitch and Bobby Forese came into run for Wessman at second base. Coleman nailed a double down the left field line that made it all the way into the corner. Mitchell was able to score all the way from first base.

Coleman, after moving to third on a ground out, scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch.

Jackson Ward (pictured) got the final out of the eighth inning on a strikeout. He got into some trouble in the ninth, with runners at first and second with two outs. Ward, though, was able to get a line out to shortstop to end the game.

Sterup went deep to right field for the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Mulberry and Wessman had back-to-back singles after the Sterup blast. With one out, the runners moved up a base on a wild pitch.  Matt Mitchell brought in Mulberry with the second run on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Beavers tied the game in the top of the fourth. Chad Snowman had a one-out double and then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Chickering singled to left field to bring in Snowman and then advanced to second on an error. Gouin doubled to center field to tie the game.

The Mules added a lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 margin. Sterup and Wessman were both hit by pitches with one out. Schmidt singled to center field to plate Sterup.

UMF tied the game again with a single run in the fifth. Bowen had a single to right field and moved to second on a ground out. Leahy singled to center to make it a 3-3 game.

The Beavers took their first lead of the game at 4-3 with a single run in the sixth inning. Chickering singled to lead off and promptly stole second base. After a walk to Gouin, Tyler Flayhan had a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Nick Attaliades-Ryan lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Chickering.
