NEWRY, Maine -- Colby College's Mardi Haskell finished in third place in the giant slalom for the second straight year, this time on just one run at the Eastern Alpine Ski Championships/Bates Carnival on Friday at Sunday River.
Haskell had an opening run of 1:12.53 to put her in third place. After the opening run, rain iced up the course and forced cancellation of the second run. Haskell will compete in the slalom on Saturday after finishing second in the event her first year and then posting two straight fourth-place finishes the past two seasons.
Sandra Schoepke placed 27th in 1:17.06, Jessica Reinhart had a 1:17.75 for 31st place, and Lexi Hanus was 37th with a 1:18.45 to lead the Mules to a fifth-place finish..
For the men's team,
Michael Boardman had his third career top-10 finish in the giant slalom at the Eastern Championships. He placed ninth in a time of 1:14.81 to help the Mules place fifth overall.
Sam Matel took 28th place for the Mules in 1:18.55 and Cam Price (pictured) finished 31st in 1:19.26.
