Men's hockey beats Becker, plays host to Geneseo on Sunday

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Kienan Scott scored his first two collegiate goals and seven Colby College men's hockey players had goals in an 8-3 victory over Becker College on Saturday in the Bowdoin/Colby Face-Off Classic.

The Mules improve to 3-0 overall heading into Sunday's 4 p.m. home game with seventh-ranked Geneseo on the second day of the tourney. Geneseo took a 7-4 win over Bowdoin in the second game Saturday.

The contest was tight for about the game after Becker (2-7) scored just 48 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1.

The Mules scored three goals in a span of 6:10 of the second period to pull away for a 4-1 lead after two periods.

Scott scored on the power play at 11:27 of the second period when he converted a back post feed from Geoff Sullivan and Cam MacDonald for a 2-1 margin.

Mario Benicky (pictured) scored on a one-timer from the left side at 13:12 off the first collegiate point from Mark Leprine and a second assist from Colin Reilly.

Nick O'Connor scored his third of the season with 2:23 left in the second period after a Becker turnover gave him a one-on-one with goalie Tyler Stepke.

The Mules continued a 6-0 scoring run with three more goals in the opening 11:40 of the final period. Phil Klitirinos went high to beat Stepke after taking a pass from Leprine at 3:44.

Reilly notched his first goal of the season 2:08 later for a 6-1 margin. He worked with Paddy Daley, who had his first collegiate point, on a give-and-go for the goal.

Colby's second power play came off the stick of EJ Rauseo at 11:40. Kai Frankville pushed a pass to Michael Decker, who ripped a shot that was saved. However, Rauseo was there to knock in the rebound.

After Becker's Corey Sherman cut the margin to 7-2, Scott scored his second goal at 15:28 off assists from Sullivan and MacDonald. The Hawks closed out the scoring with 2:54 to play on a score by Nicholas McKee.

First-year goaltender Andrew Tucci made 19 saves to earn his third win in as many starts. Mack Burton added two saves for the Mules in the 3:54.
