Volleyball falls at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Paige Hanssen, Karolina Serhan, and Elizabeth Noyes all had seven kills for the Colby College volleyball team in a 3-1 loss at University of New England on Wednesday night.

Nicole Petherbridge and Alexa Busser both had six kills and three blocks for Colby in the 25-18, 23-25, 25-11, 25-23 setback.
 

Serhan also had a team-high four blocks for Colby (4-15 overall), which plays at Bowdoin College on Friday at 7 p.m. Molly Manuel finished with 16 assists, Emily Moslener added 10 assists, seven digs and five aces, while Mae Sefransky had seven assists, five digs, and four aces. 

The Mules led 14-12 in the opening set before the Nor'easters went on a 13-4 scoring run to end the set.
 

Colby fought hard to win the second set, scoring the final three points to pull out a 25-23 victory. Noyes had a kill and Sefransky had back-to-back aces for the final two points.

The Mules never got on track in the third set, falling behind 10-4 and trailed 22-5 at one point.
 

Colby had an early 8-4 lead in the final set, but the Nor'easters went on a 7-1 run to go up 11-9. The Mules tied the match at 19-19, 20-20, 22-22, and 23-23 in the closing moments. However, UNE (12-8) scored the final two points to win the set.

Kristen Falcinelli had 43 assists and three aces for the Nor'easters. Rene Roggenbuck had a match-high 13 kills and Maddy Blake added nine kills.
