Waterville, Maine - After preparing and racing all winter, seven Mules (out of a maximum 12) will represent Colby as the nations best at the 2024 NCAA Skiing Championships in Steamboat Springs hosted by the University of Colorado.
For Alpine,
Harrison Digangi,
Meagan Olsen,
Hannah Soria and
Nolan Sweeney will represent Colby. Digangi had some high class performances this season with his best results taking place at the Williams Carnival. In just his first-year as a collegiate skier, Digangi secured the first podium for the Mules in 14 years after securing a third place finish in the Giant Slalom followed by a fifth place finish in the Slalom. Olsen '24 had some top times in the GS this season finishing fourth at Harvard and Colby's home carnival at Sugarloaf to open up the season. Soria '25 also had a standout performance in the GS at Harvard taking the crown to become the first Colby skier to win a race since Mardi Haskell won the Middlebury Slalom in 2015 as the team finished first overall in that event. Lastly, first-year Sweeney raced to his best result of the season in the Harvard GS as well finishing in second place to propel the Mules to an overall second place team finish in that event.
On the Nordic side of competition,
Zach Nemeth,
Gretta Scholz and
Jack Young will represent the Mules. Nemeth '24 had his best performances in the classic events this year finishing 6th in both the Harvard Carnival (as the team finished first overall) and Colby's home carnival on Quarry Road. Fellow senior Scholz raced to her best result of the year at the Harvard Carnival taking 8th place in the classic while Young '25 also had his best finishes at Harvard securing 5th in the Classic and a podium third place finish in the Freestyle. The junior also represented the US this year competing at the Canmore World Cup.
The four-day event will start on Wednesday March 6th with Alpine in the Giant Slalom followed by the Nordic 7.5 skate on Thursday, Slalom Friday and 20k Classic to wrap things up on Saturday March 9th. The Alpine events will be held at Mt. Werner and Howelsen Hills, while all Nordic events will be held at Howelsen Hills.
